People who speak the pokot dialect receive Bible in their own language

Kenya – After more than thirty years of intense work, finally the Pokot population, from Kenya, will be able to read the translated Bible in their own native language. The new Bible, whose translation and supervision were coordinated and directed by the Biblical Society from Kenya, will be officially presented this coming Saturday, August 22, during a ceremony held by the Communication and Information Minister, Samuel Poghisio. The pokot are a community of shepherds who live in the dry plains of the northeast of Kenya and that reaches into Uganda. The main difficulty – explain the studious – was not as much the translation of the Bible, but the differences in the presentation and introduction of the notes at the bottom of the pages and in the doctrinal indications.

“Finally, a trip which started thirty years ago is now over – declared with satisfaction the president of the Biblical Society from Kenya, Isacco Litali – and now is the time to reap the fruit of the hard work and sacrifice of the pokot people. We comprehend how important it is to have the Bible translated into local languages amongst the native African populations”. “The translation into their own language – he added – has a profound effect over people, for they receive the Word of God in a more effective way. It is the Lord who directs himself to them in their own language:”
